HarperFiction has acquired two more books from Girl A author, Abigail Dean.
Julia Wisdom, publisher, crime and thriller, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights (excluding Canada) from Juliet Mushens of Mushens Entertainment. The first novel book in the new contract, as yet untitled, will publish in spring 2025.
Dean’s first novel was the breakout crime novel of 2021. Since its release it has shifted more than 250,000 units through Nielsen BookScan UK, has been sold into 36 territories and film/TV rights were bought by Sony.
Dean said: “With Girl A, the team at HarperFiction made all of my publication dreams come true. Despite the challenges of Covid, their creativity, ingenuity and support was constant. I’m so, so happy to continue our work together—and I can’t wait to see what they do next.”
Mushens added: “Abigail’s novels are phenomenal—her grasp on character complexity and skilled plotting make her books unputdownable, and ones which you want to discuss over and over. Selfishly, I’m therefore delighted that she is writing at least two more! HarperFiction have steered her to such commercial and critical success that I know we’re going to see even more innovative publishing as they turn her from debut to brand.”
Wisdom also commented: “I can’t think of another writer who weaves together profound feeling and genuine suspense so successfully [...] we look forward to building her brand and working with Abigail for many years to come.”
