HarperNonFiction has landed Forever Max: The Lasting Adventures of the World’s Most Loved Dog, the "heart-warming" second book by Kerry Irving following Max the Miracle Dog (HarperCollins).
Publishing director Kelly Ellis acquired world all-languages right directly with the author. Forever Max will be published on 11th April 2024 in hardback, e-book and audiobook.
Forever Max tells the "inspiring final chapter" in springer spaniel Max’s life who transformed Irving after a car accident left him with chronic pain and depression. In this book, Irving reflects "on how Max not only changed his life forever, but also changed the lives of countless others around the world" in a "touching tribute to a much-loved dog".
Max and Irving went on regular charity walks and raised over £500,000 in Max’s name. Max is the first pet to receive the PDSA Order of Merit, known as the "animal OBE".
Irving said: "Having the team at HarperCollins and my good friend Matt Whyman behind me has powered me to tell the story of the last three years of what can only be described as a most incredible journey. I’ve gone through the highs and the lows – through tears and laughter – to share the adventures and final days of the world’s most loved dog. I’m sure we have done Max proud.’
Ellis added: "It’s an absolute honour to be publishing this incredibly special book. Max was more than one man’s best friend, he was a hero to an entire community around the world and he will be so sorely missed. Kerry’s tribute to Max paints a poignant picture of the importance of dogs to humans and how they leave paw prints on our hearts forever."
