HarperCollins has acquired Live Forever: How Liam and Noel Remade Rock ‘N’ Roll, the Story of Oasis by Mancunian journalist and musician John Robb.
Editorial director Jonathan de Peyer acquired world all-language rights for HarperNorth from Matthew Hamilton at The Hamilton Agency. The book will publish in hardback, e-book and audio in June 2025, just before the first of the reformed band’s UK dates, and publication will be backed by a bookshop tour and other live events.
"The finest book on Britain’s most celebrated rock ‘n’ roll band, Live Forever peels back the layers of Manchester’s best known musical export, revealing a tale of ambition, ego, talent and a whole lot of attitude," the synopsis says. "From gritty pub backrooms to the dizzying heights of global stardom, this unauthorised celebration of all things Oasis is a rollercoaster ride through the Gallagher brothers’ turbulent lives and the music that defined a generation, written by a man who was a key part of the scene they came up through. It is also a portrait of Britain around the turn of the millennium and the cultural forces that shaped, and were shaped by, two cocksure autodidacts from Burnage—from art to fashion, and from football to politics."
Robb was the journalist chosen by Noel Gallagher for the exclusive "Definitely Maybe" 30th anniversary interview. "This book celebrates the vision and artfulness of a band who transcended everything and soundtracked a generation, beyond the tabloid headlines," he said.
De Peyer added: "When Oasis reformed, I knew there was only one person who could do justice to their story and capture the essence of what made the band great. John Robb lived the story the first time around and is one of this country’s finest music journalists. His writing perfectly captures the energy and swagger of the band and the feelings they elicit in pretty much all of us."
