HarperNorth has acquired The Voices and a second novel by Natalie Chandler in a pre-empt.
Commissioning editor Daisy Watt acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Liza DeBlock at Mushens Entertainment. Italian rights were pre-empted by Giunti, and German rights were bought by Droemer Knaur. The Voices, a claustrophobic thriller, will be published in hardback, e-book and audiobook in February 2025.
The Voices follows renowned psychiatrist Tamsin Shaw, who suffered a mysterious car accident three years ago and is now trapped in a vegetative state. Her husband Jamie plans to withdraw her treatment.
But from her hospital bed, Tamsin is listening. Only she hears all her visitors’ secrets, and only she knows what truly happened before the crash. She can still expose this string of crimes and stop the man responsible. If she wakes up in time.
Chandler said: “Daisy’s passion and vision for The Voices shone through and I feel extremely fortunate to have found a HarperCollins home that will enable to me to continue to develop my career. The Voices is a special book that means a huge amount to me and I am so excited for readers to meet Tamsin.”
Watt said: “The Voices is a phenomenal thriller – I couldn’t move or speak until I’d turned the final page. Tamsin is one of the most captivating protagonists I’ve encountered, and the way Natalie slowly awakens the reader to the secrets and lies that surround her hospital bed is tantalisingly smart.”
