HarperNorth has nabbed an untitled book about the forthcoming general election by ITV News’ deputy political editor Anushka Asthana.
Senior commissioning editor Jonathan de Peyer acquired world all language rights directly from the author. The book will be published in hardback, e-book and audio in the aftermath of the general election.
The synopsis reads: “Renowned broadcast and print journalist Asthana will take readers behind the scenes of what promises to be an epochal campaign. As the political landscape undergoes seismic shifts, her gripping account will benefit from unparalleled access to the key players and the machinery of Keir Starmer’s Labour and Rishi Sunak’s Conservatives, and exclusive insights on the other contenders in this high-stakes electoral contest.”
ITV News’ political editor Robert Peston said that Asthana’s “storytelling, contacts and analysis are second to none”, while the Guardian’s editor in chief, Katharine Viner, spoke of her “expertise, insight and empathy”, as well as her “tenacious reporting skills”.
Peyer commented: “Anushka is one of this country’s very best political journalists and I’m delighted we’ve managed to persuade her to put pen to paper for her first book. Her unique vantage point means this will be the definitive book on a hugely consequential moment for Britain.”
Asthana added: “I will seek to answer the fundamental question of whether Keir Starmer’s Labour Party will be able to maintain its polling advantage into an election – and if it does, what type of government it will be. With exclusive behind-the-scenes access to Labour and the Conservatives’ election machines, I feel well placed to tell the inside story.”
