HarperNorth has snapped up Bad Girls of Ancient Greece by debut author Lizzy Tiffin, which aims to look at the women of the classical world through a modern lens.
Megan Jones, assistant editor, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights (excluding Canada) from Amberley Lowis at The Viney Agency. The book be released in June 2024.
Bad Girls of Ancient Greece is billed as “the ultimate guide to the women of Greek myth”. The publisher it was “written with humour and sass, narrating the stories of mortals, goddesses, titans, nymphs and more through a modern lens". It is billed as "accessible, intelligent and humorous" guide to "the women we love and know as well as those we may not”.
Jones said: “What struck me with Lizzy’s writing was her clear love of these original stories, but even more so, her desire to make them as accessible as possible to those who may find reading the likes of Homer’s epics or Aeschylus’s ’Oresteia’ daunting. Lizzy’s writing is fun, enlightening and empowering. Bad Girls of Ancient Greece is the perfect gift for anyone with an interest in the classics, or someone just looking for their way in.”
Tiffin added: “I’ve always thought the Greek myths were fascinating, but found I was particularly drawn to the women, who were often in the shadows of their fathers, husbands or lovers, despite being just as colourful and captivating. It was important for me to tell their tales in an accessible way, as I’ve personally always struggled to absorb anything ‘classically’ written.”
