HarperVoyager has acquired Michelle Wong’s illustrated fantasy book, House of the Beast, which features "elements of dark romance and horror".
Editor Ajebowale Roberts bought UK and Commonwealth rights in a one book deal from HarperCollins US, from Thao Le at the Sandra Dijkstra Literary Agency, and the book will be published in summer 2025.
"Perfect for fans of dark romance, horror and graphic novels, House of the Beast centres on a young woman, named Alma, who strikes a deal with a mysterious and seductive god to seek revenge on her aristocratic family," says the synopsis of the book, which will feature black-and-white illustrations by the author.
"I consider myself incredibly fortunate to be working with an amazing editor like Ajebowale Roberts, who has a perfect eye for dark and intoxicating relationships and how to shape them to keep readers on the edge of their seats," Wong commented. "Getting to illustrate my own novel is a dream come true, and I am grateful to everyone at Voyager for believing in this endeavour."
Roberts added: "Michelle intricately weaves immersive worldbuilding, a propelling plot and character relationships that are both twisted and toxic but deeply moving. Michelle also happens to be a remarkable artist so I can’t wait to see her beautiful writing paired with her haunting illustrations when we have the final book."
