HarperVoyager has pre-empted the first adult fantasy trilogy from YA author Brigid Kemmerer.
Rachel Winterbottom, editorial director for HarperVoyager and Magpie, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Sarah Gerton on behalf of Suzie Townsend at New Leaf Literary & Media. North American rights were acquired by editor Julia Elliott at Avon. Warrior Princess Assassin, the first book in the deal, is scheduled for publication in summer 2025.
"The excitement over Warrior Princess Assassin was immediate and tangible," said Gerton. "Brigid’s swoony, heart-pounding story has found a great home with the Voyager team, and we can’t wait for the book to come to life and reach readers!"
The trilogy follows three characters – a princess with a secret, the handsome warrior king with fire magic she must marry for a political alliance, and the assassin who has been tasked with killing them both. The assassin, however, is the princess’ first love.
Kemmerer said: "I’m so excited to have the opportunity to tell a story that pushes the boundaries of fantasy romance, and I simply cannot wait for readers to meet these three characters and to fall in love with them as much as I have. I’m ecstatic to know that Rachel Winterbottom and HarperCollins will be bringing this book to readers in the UK."
Winterbottom added: "Brigid has already captivated readers with her enchanting YA, and we can’t wait to capture readers’ hearts all across the world with her swoon-inducing adult fiction. Fans of Sarah J Maas, Jennifer Armentrout and Rebecca Yarros should prepare for an epic twist on the love triangle!"
