HarperVoyager and Del Rey Books have signed for a fantasy trilogy from Demon Cycle author Peter V Brett in a "high six-figure" deal.
HarperVoyager acquired UK and Commonwealth excluding Canada rights to the new trilogy, while Del Rey Books has acquired North American rights. Natasha Bardon, publishing director at HarperVoyager, did the deal with Zeno Agency’s John Berlyne, acting on behalf of Joshua Bilmes of JABberwocky Literary Agency, earlier this month.
The Demon Cycle series was also published by HarperVoyager and concluded last year with The Core. The new series, the first of which is titled The Desert Prince, will take place 15 years after the ending of The Core telling the tales of two young protagonists, Olive Paper and Darin Bales, and featuring Demon Cycle characters and settings.
Brett said: "I have been laying the groundwork for this series for years and am so excited to finally bring it to life. It keeps all the things I love about the Demon Cycle, while taking things in a fresh direction that provides an exciting entry point for new and younger readers. Olive Paper will be a hero unlike any other."
Bardon said: "I’m absolutely delighted that we’ll be publishing a new series from Peter. I can still remember the first time I read The Painted Man– it was so fresh and original, and the Demon Cycle series was such an emotional rollercoaster of a read. It’s thrilling to be embarking on a new entry point into Peter’s work which his fans will love, but which also offers a brilliant opportunity for new readers to discover him."
