HarperVoyager has snapped up a standalone adult fantasy romance debut, The Sacred Space Between, and one more standalone fantasy by BookTokker Kalie Reid.
Rachel Winterbottom, publishing director for HarperVoyager and Magpie Books, triumphed in a competitive six-way auction, acquiring UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Alice Caprio at Felicity Bryan Associates. The first book is scheduled for publication in November 2025, and translation rights have sold in Italy, Spain, Turkey and Bulgaria. Foreign rights enquiries should be directed to Felicity Bryan Associates.
“Jude is a saint with dangerous magic – exiled by the Abbey to live out his days in a decaying estate on the moors alone – until devout iconographer Maeve is sent to paint his icon,” the synopsis says. “Suspecting she’s a spy for her beloved Abbey, Jude makes it his mission to get rid of Maeve as soon as possible. That is, until he discovers that Maeve holds the same tainted magic as he does, and she may be the key to destroying the Abbey’s power. . . But this institution has eyes everywhere, and the only thing the Abbey loves more than a saint is a martyr.”
Winterbottom said: “The Sacred Space Between is the ultimate slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers fantasy romance. With an atmospheric gothic setting, magical library and an iconic book boyfriend, readers are going to worship this sinfully good romantasy.”
Reid added: “HarperVoyager is the perfect home for The Sacred Space Between, and I’m so excited for readers to discover the windswept moors and limestone walls of the Abbey with Jude and Maeve. Rachel and the whole team have been absolutely amazing, and I’m honoured to be on this journey with them!”
