HarperVoyager has signed "the fantasy phenomenon of the year" from Sarah A Parker in a two-book deal, following a nine-way auction.
Editorial director Rachel Winterbottom acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Suzannah Ball at WME. Originally self-published, When the Moon Hatched was a "instant viral sensation". It will be published in hardback on 13th June 2024. North American rights were signed by Avon at HarperCollins US.
The synopsis for When the Moon Hatched reads: "An assassin seeking revenge and a king mourning his lost love collide in the bestselling fantasy phenomenon that will transport you into a world filled with magic, dragons, heartbreak – and a love that blazes through the age."
Winterbottom said: "With the intricate worldbuilding of Game of Thrones and the heart-pounding romance of Sarah J Maas, Sarah A Parker has created an extraordinarily immersive fantasy world – and a dazzling love story. Voyager is absolutely over the moon to be publishing the action-packed fantasy that’s already taken BookTok by storm. No wonder readers are calling it the fantasy phenomenon of 2024."
Parker added: "Finding a home for When the Moon Hatched at HarverVoyager UK is a dream come true. Rachel Winterbottom and her incredible team align so beautifully with my creative vision for this story and the series moving forward, and I’m honoured that we will be working together to spread it far and wide."
