Haruki Murakami’s first novel in six years, The City and Its Uncertain Walls, will be published by Harvill Secker in November 2024, tipped as “an ode to books and to the libraries that house them”.
Harvill Secker publishing director Liz Foley acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Karolina Sutton at CAA on behalf of Amanda Urban at CAA. It will be published on 26th November 2024.
The publisher said the novel “revisits a town his readers will remember, a place where a Dream Reader reviews dreams and where our shadows become untethered from ourselves”.
Harvill Secker added: “A love story, a quest, an ode to books and to the libraries that house them, and a parable for these strange post-pandemic times, The City and Its Uncertain Walls is a singular and towering achievement by one of modern literature’s most important writers.”
Foley said: “It’s incredibly exciting to have The City and Its Uncertain Walls coming this year. Haruki is a writer without parallel and I know his legions of fans are going to be thrilled to have this to look forward to.”
