Haunt Publishing has scooped Benothinged from debut author Alvar Theo.
Rebecca Wojturska, managing director, acquired exclusive world all-language rights in volume, e-book and audiobook for the legal term of copyright directly from the author. It will publish in October 2024.
The novel follows Mask, who is in their early 30s, “jobless, depressed and grieving”. The synopsis says: “Moving into their grandmother’s now empty house, they realise they’re being haunted by something.
“V, a homeless busker with secrets of his own, recognises exactly what is haunting Mask. The Nothing. Working together, they must figure out why The Nothing is targeting Mask, discover what it wants and learn how to destroy it, before it destroys them."
Theo said: "Signing up with Haunt is a dream come true. I received the news at a very difficult time in my life and it really helped me to pull through. I am looking forward to working with the team at Haunt to make my debut novel the best it can possibly be."
The publisher said: "Alvar’s ability to weave horror, humour and social commentary into a page-turning sensation is exquisite. Alvar is a rising star of the genre, and we can’t wait to unleash Benothinged into the world."
