The live action film, directed by Oscar nominee Gil Kenan, features an all star cast including Jim Broadbent, Sally Hawkins, Toby Jones, Maggie Smith and Kristen Wiig.
It reimagines the origins of Father Christmas, following a young boy called Nikolas searching for his father alongside reindeer Blitzen and a loyal pet mouse.
The book was adapted for the screen by Kenan, known for film “Monster House”, and the writer and director of “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again”, Ol Parker
Produced with Blueprint Pictures, Studiocanal will release the film in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France and China, although a date has not yet been made public. Netflix will handle its distribution in the rest of the world.
Haig’s original story, featuring illustrations by Chris Mould and the first in a five-book series, was released in 2015. It has gone on to sell 106,455 copies in the UK via Nielsen BookScan's TCM, across all editions.
