Hachette Children’s Group (HCG) has landed a new non-fiction book about the brain from NHS consultant paediatrician and TV presenter Dr Ranj Singh.
Liza Wilde, senior commissioning editor at the Wren & Rook imprint, bought world rights in the text of Brain Power: A Toolkit to Understand and Train Your Unique Brain from K T Forster at the K T Forster Literary Agency, and world rights in the illustrations from Jodie Hodges at United Agents. The book will be for children aged seven and above with illustrations by David O’Connell. It will publish in paperback on 3rd February 2022.
The synopsis says: "Brain Power is an accessible and engaging guide full of help and advice for keeping minds and brains happy and healthy. It doesn’t just explain how brains work – it teaches readers how to train their brains to get better at things they find challenging.
"It also explains how different people think in different ways and why that makes each one of us special. Including fun challenges to keep your brain primed for learning, tips to improve your mental health and insights from neurodiverse young people, Brain Power will give readers the confidence to understand and love their brains, however they work. With a strong emphasis on empowering the reader, the book encourages all children to be the very best they can be."
Dr Ranj said: "Nurturing the mental health and wellbeing of kids has always been important. However, there has never been a greater need for it than over the past year or so. I wanted to write a book that explains the fascinating ways in which our minds and brains work, celebrates how unique we all are whether we are neurodiverse or neurotypical, and teaches readers how we can make the most of ourselves. I want every young person who picks up this book to discover how special they are and to feel empowered to be their very best."
