Head of Zeus has scooped The Unfortunate Side Effects of Heartbreak and Magic by Breanne Randall.
Assistant editor Bianca Gillam acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Stephanie Manova at Crooked Lane and Alcove. The book will be published in the UK on 12th October, with Bloomsbury Australia publishing on the 31st of the same month.
The author, Randall, has amassed a combined following of 80,000 since March across Instagram and TikTok based on content she has posted about her book, and her content receives a lot of engagement.
Head of Zeus is running a preorder campaign with Bert’s Books, featuring a bespoke bookmark, while Australia is arranging proof mailings to key retailers.
Gillam said: "I swear the universe brought me this book – as soon as I read it, I fell in love with Breanne’s writing. I couldn’t stop thinking about it, so when it came across my Instagram feed I took it as a sign.
"By the evening of the same day I had acquired UK rights. I couldn’t be more happy to have Breanne on our Aria list. Her book is wonderful and I expect great things."
Randall commented: "I’d been wishing [for] UK rights for months, and when I got the news that Head of Zeus acquired them, I felt like all the stars had aligned."
