Headline acquires mum's book on murder of daughter Becky Godden-Edwards

Headline has acquired Karen Edwards’ powerful and “immensely moving” account of the disappearance and murder of her daughter Becky Godden-Edwards.

Killer’s Confession: And a Mother’s Fight for the Truth is Edwards’ version of the events surrounding her daughter's disappearance in 2003, the agonising eight years without her and the aftermath of taxi driver Christopher Halliwell’s confession to the killing of Sian O’Callaghan – a revelation that ultimately exposed Becky’s death.

The book will also detail the events that led to Becky’s disappearance and reveal her mother’s subsequent fight for justice, both for Becky and Detective Superintendent Stephen Fulcher, the police officer punished for breaking official protocol during the case.

Fiona Crosby, senior commissioning editor, at Headline acquired world rights from Robert Smith at the Robert Smith Literary Agency. It will be published on 5th September.

Crosby said: “Throughout the rollercoaster of what happened before and after Becky’s disappearance, the one constant has been Karen’s determination to fight for her daughter. I’m very grateful that Karen has entrusted us with her immensely moving story.”

Edwards explained: “As I look back, I’m left in disbelief of what we have been through; we were just a normal family, going about our business like millions of others, until that knock on the door. But after so many years where we had to keep quiet about what really happened, I am finally in a position where I can try to reflect on our loss and our battle for the truth.”

The story of the murders and police investigation is currently in production as a six-part drama for ITV. “A Confession”, starring Martin Freeman as Stephen Fulcher and Imelda Staunton as Karen Edwards will air this autumn.
