Headline has landed James Acaster’s Guide to Quitting Social Media: Being the Best YOU You Can Be and Saving Yourself From Loneliness Vol 1.
Senior commissioning editor Richard Roper acquired world rights from Daisy Skepelhorn at PBJ Management. The “epoch-defining tome” will be published in hardback, audio and e-book in August 2022.
Acaster quit social media 2019 and “felt like he’d been born anew”, but worries that he would be tempted back online prompted him to replace social media with “three-dimensional, real-life activities”. Spurred on to remain free of social media’s lure, Acaster found ways to “anonymously bully strangers, see photos of everyone’s dogs, get invited to as many parties as possible, immediately know about all celebrity deaths, get public figures fired, argue with everybody about everything, and so much more without even owning a phone".
Headline wrote: “This is a self-help book like no other. Because you aren’t helping yourself. James Acaster is helping you.”
Roper said: “While working as an undercover cop and dealing with cabbages in the post, James has somehow also found the time to become the most important self-help guru in the world. This epoch-defining tome will finally solve the riddle of how we can stay off social media and still find the dizzying highs that come with each tweet. It’s not an exaggeration to say that this book will change lives.”
Acaster commented: “Attention all web addicts – I am here to cure you with my brand new book. Please help spread the word by tweeting about it, sharing on Facebook, Insta, do a TikTok about it – every little helps. Let’s make this book go viral and quit social media in the process! Like and subscribe below! Yours sincerely, James Acaster.”
