Headline Home has snapped up a book celebrating 20 years since TV star Jimmy Doherty opened his Suffolk farm.
Lindsey Evans, publishing director, bought world rights for Tales from Jimmy’s Farm from Debbie Catchpole at Fresh-Partners. The book will be published in hardback, e-book and audio on 13th October.
This year sees the 20th anniversary of Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park in Suffolk, which started out as a farm for rare-breed pigs in 2002. The book will be a celebration of the journey that Doherty and his family have found themselves on over the years, and of the many animals that now call the farm home.
The publisher said: “The reader will be transported into the landscape, learn of the practical day-to-day jobs on the farm, and fall in love with the animals through stories and funny anecdotes of where they came from, how they settled in and their impact on Jimmy and his team.”
Evans said: “I am so thrilled to be publishing a new book by Jimmy; and especially one that looks back over the last 20 years of the farm and celebrates nature and conservationism. I remember visiting the farm when he first opened it and hearing about the plans that he had for its future expansion. It’s amazing to see what he has achieved over the past two decades—with the farm now operating as a wildlife park as well—and this book will tell the story of how he did it.”
Doherty added: “Since taking on the stewardship of the land 20 years ago, I thought it would be a great opportunity to document the journey that I’ve found myself on, and I’m delighted to be working with Headline Home on a book to mark the occasion. To witness the changing of the seasons so closely, to understand how they shape both us and the natural world, will always be the ultimate reward. I can honestly say each and every one, emotionally—and, on occasions, physically!—has left its mark.
“The book will introduce readers to the animals that now live in our wildlife park, as well as exploring conservationism and how important it is to get out into the great outdoors and enjoy everything our seasons bring. Along with some funny stories, I’ll be reflecting on what it means to work in a natural habitat, dealing with everything that nature chucks our way, and will include a few recipes and conservation projects for anyone to have a go at in their own homes and gardens.”
