Headline Home has acquired Two Magpies Bakery: Stories and Recipes from the Heart of East Anglia, by award-winning baker Rebecca Bishop.
Editorial director Anna Steadman acquired world rights from Heather Holden-Brown at HHB Agency for publication in crown quarto hardback and e-book in April 2023.
In 2013, Bishop’s Two Magpies Bakery opened its doors for the first time in Southwold, Suffolk. Since then seven more branches have opened, alongside a baking school in Darsham. Before opening in 2013, Rebecca Bishop worked as an art teacher, baking in her spare time. A year after opening, Two Magpies was shortlisted for the Observer Food Monthly Awards. Bishop won Gold at the World Bread Awards in 2014 and 2015.
The publisher says the book will “teach you how to make all of your favourite breads, pastries and pizzas – everything from sourdough to scones, and from croissants to cardamom buns,” adding that there are also recipes for celebration cakes, and many more bakes and bars, including the famous Adnams Broadside bread pudding and lemon shortbread slice.
“Rebecca’s accessible advice will demystify many of the bakery world secrets that make the difference between a home baker and professional with careful instruction, tips and techniques, all accompanied with irresistible images by photographer India Hobson,” it continues.
Steadman said: “I’ve been such a fan of Two Magpies Bakery ever since my first visit, and I was so pleased when John Bond from Whitefox first introduced me to Rebecca. This is a cookbook to delight in whether you are an existing fan of the bakery or simply a keen baker of any level.”
Holden-Brown said Bishop “brings fun, charm and great talent to the world of baking”, while Bishop commented: “This book has been years in the planning (mostly in my head as my hands were usually deep in the dough) so it’s an absolute pleasure to share many of the recipes our customers have loved over the years with a wider audience.”
