Headline Home has acquired The Blend: How to Successfully Manage a Career and a Family by the founder of My Bump Pay, Tobi Asare.
Editorial director Anna Steadman acquired world rights from Julia Silk at Greyhound Literary for publication in hardback, e-book and audio edition in March 2023.
The publisher’s synopsis reads: “Whether you are a new mother, just thinking about it, or already trying to combine a career and children, working motherhood can sometimes seem like an impossible balancing act. That’s why Tobi Asare, founder of My Bump Pay, doesn’t talk about ‘the juggle’ or finding ‘balance’, but instead about The Blend.
“In this book, Tobi shares her hard-won wisdom and advice on how to make working work for you, covering everything from the financial to the emotional aspects of working motherhood, and from preparing for maternity leave to returning with confidence.
“This is not just about surviving or staying sane, this is about how to thrive while successfully blending work and family life. The Blend will help you set yourself up for success before the baby comes along, during the pregnancy and beyond.”
Steadman said: “I first came across Tobi on Instagram while I was on maternity leave myself. I’m such a fan of her inspiring content and genuinely useful advice and I’m so excited to be publishing her first book, which will help so many women, whether they are just thinking about starting a family or already in the thick of ‘the blend’.”
Silk commented: “I so wish I’d had the benefit of Tobi’s wisdom years ago, but even though my children are now out of the pre-school years, I still find so much value in her advice. The Blend is a plan for a life of combining career with family, not just those first few tough years, and I’m thrilled that it will be brought to a whole new audience by the fantastic team at Headline Home.”
Asare said that through the book she is able to share “heaps of information and inspiring stories to help anyone thinking about, or in the midst of, navigating motherhood and a career”.
“I wrote this book as if I was writing to a sister or best friend, cheerleading them on to build the life and the career of their dreams irrespective of wanting and having a family. My hope is that through The Blend people feel less alone in their journeys, as well as empowered and enlightened,” she said.
