Headline has picked up The Joy of Snacks: A Celebration of One of Life’s Greatest Pleasures, with Recipes by food writer Laura Goodman.
Senior commissioning editor Anna Steadman acquired world rights from Sabhbh Curran at Curtis Brown. It will be published in hardback, e-book and audio in September 2022.
“Laura has written the book that we all need right now,” said Curran. “Joyful, hilarious and life-affirming, her snacking stories and recipes will delight and inspire us all to celebrate every occasion with dishes that are modest in size, but huge in flavour.”
Goodman is a food writer whose work has appeared in the Sunday Times and Waitrose Magazine. From January 2019 to January 2020 she wrote a weekly column about snacks for Grazia. Her first cookbooks, Carbs, was published by Quadrille in 2018 and was praised by Nigella Lawson as “wonderful” and Meera Sodha as “joyful, funny and intelligent”.
The Joy of Snacks is full of lists, essays and recipes to “take the reader from their morning coffee (cinnamon crumble cakes and cherry-marzipan hand pies) to their evening wine (oeufs durs mayonnaise and mushroom pate) via salsas, hot dips, crispy bits, crab nachos and frozen piña coladas in the sun”. It promises to “lift spirits while satisfying the deepest snacking desires”.
Steadman said: “Laura’s first book, Carbs, is one of my most loved cookbooks and I’m still pinching myself that I get to publish one of my my favourite writers on one of my favourite subjects.”
Goodman added: “Can you believe I found an editor who is as passionate about chips and dips as I am? This book has been a total joy to write and I’m so grateful to Anna and Headline for trusting me, my writing and my between-meals eating.”
