Headline has landed Sex Bomb, a "hilarious, compelling and conversation-starting" memoir from stand-up comedian, podcast host and writer Sadia Azmat.
Katie Packer, commissioning editor, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Chris Quaile at Individual Artist Management. The memoir will be published in May 2022.
The synopsis for her first book reads: "Azmat is a comedian who loves sex. She is also a hijab-wearing Muslim woman. The two have a bit of a complicated relationship. In this vibrant, funny and gasp-inducing memoir, Azmat shows how the two sides of her identity have fought and embraced each other over the course of her life. From being viewed as a sister by all the men she wanted to date, to growing up and being criticised by Muslims and white people alike for speaking out on sex; from her experiences of dating Asian men and white men to her tumultuous relationship with her headscarf, she is unafraid to give you the honest truth. In the end she looks to the future and asks, what does it mean to be sexually liberated? And can you truly separate the girl from the headscarf?"
Packer said: "This book is everything you would want from a memoir; insightful, perspective-shifting, emotive, inspiring but, more than anything, it’s funny. Sadia really takes you on a journey, and she might just challenge you a few times on the way. I’m very excited to be bringing such a fresh and entertaining new voice to Headline."
In 2018 Azmat launched her BBC podcast "No Country For Young Women".
She commented: "I’m buzzing to be working with Katie Packer at Headline. It’s hasn’t always been easy admitting I’m a horny Muslim and I can’t wait to share all the details on how I’ve learned to love everything about my experiences."
