Headline Publishing Group has acquired I Never Said I Loved You by writer, actor and broadcaster Rhik Samadder. The book will be published in hardback in spring 2019.
The book, described by Headline as "a chartered voyage through the seas of [Samadder's] mental health", is the author's journey of recovery from depression, which he has suffered from for most of his life, and an investigation into it. It explores how he came to be where he was, how he could counter the darkness that pulled at him, and how his behaviour had affected those around him.
Publishing director Sarah Emsley, who acquired UK and Commonwealth rights at auction from Sophie Lambert at C+W, called Samadder a "fresh and important new voice in narrative non-fiction".
"Rhik Samadder’s proposal for I Never Said I Loved You is one of the best I have ever read," she said. "Searingly honest, heartbreakingly poignant and unexpectedly hilarious his book takes you on a fascinating journey that spans the globe and crosses generations. Such is the company-wide enthusiasm for this book that when we heard the news that Rhik had chosen Headline as his publishing home, the whole team was cheering. We couldn’t be prouder to be publishing this fresh and important new voice in narrative non-fiction."
