Headline has acquired world rights in three books by comedian and host of BBC Radio 4's "The News Quiz" Miles Jupp.
Commissioning editor Richard Roper acquired world rights from Molly Wansell at 42 Management.
The first book, to be published in July 2017, will be called Egg and Soldiers: A Childhood Memoir (with postcards from the present) and is a fictional memoir from Jupp’s alter-ego Damien Trench, the fussy food writer and protagonist of the BBC Radio 4 sitcom "In and Out of the Kitchen".
A novel from Jupp will follow in 2018 with a non-fiction title to come in 2019.
Jupp said: "I am really enjoying writing this luxury, high-end and ultimately expensive book. Damien has an appalling tendency to go off at tangents, but I'm doing my best to rein him in where possible and happily mining the rich seam of anxiety and confusion of his formative years. Whatever obstacles the past and present world throw up, his passion for good food, done well, remains undimmed. And there'll be recipes. Probably."
Roper said: "Miles is a supremely talented writer and I am truly excited that he will first be delving into Damien Trench’s early years to explore how such pivotal moments as the ‘Swiss Cottage Poo Incident’ set him on the path to becoming the respected broadcaster, author and all round good egg he is today."
Jupp played Nigel in sitcom "Rev", and John Duggan in Armando Iannucci's "The Thick Of It", and has made multiple appearances on "Have I Got News For You", "Mock The Week" and "Would I Lie To You?" as well as writing and starring in BBC Radio 4 sitcom "In and Out of the Kitchen". In 2015 he took over from Sandi Toksvig as host of "The News Quiz". Since September of this year he has been touring a new stand-up show, Songs of Freedom.
Jupp previously published a book in 2013 with Ebury called Fibber in the Heat, centred on Jupp's enthusiasm for cricket.
