Headline Home has scooped a “call to action” from journalist Lauren Bravo offering advice on how to ditch fast fashion in favour of repairing, recycling and giving a new lease of life to your clothes while staying stylish.
Senior commissioning editor Anna Steadman acquired world all language rights from Jemima Forrester at David Higham Associates. How To Break Up With Fast Fashion: A Guilt-Free Guide to Changing the Way You Shop, For Good will be published in hardback and e-book in January 2020.
Described as “full of refreshing honesty and realistic advice”, its synopsis explains: “The fashion industry is often cited as the world's second largest polluter, and global clothing production has roughly doubled in the last 15 years. People everywhere are waking up to the fact that we need to act now and change the way we shop. This book will show you how. How To Break Up With Fast Fashion will help you to change your mindset, fall back in love with your wardrobe and embrace more sustainable ways of shopping - from the clothes swap to the charity shop.”
Bravo is a freelance journalist who writes about fashion, popular culture, food, travel and feminism for outlets like Grazia, Cosmopolitan, the Telegraph and the Guardian. She was also the Pool’s Wardrobe Stories columnist and her first book, What Would The Spice Girls Do? was published by Transworld in 2018.
Bravo, currently on a year-long fast fashion ban and working with Oxfam to promote their Second Hand September campaign, said: “I've loved clothes my whole life, but quitting fast fashion was one of the best decisions I ever made – for the planet, and also for my happiness, sanity and bank balance. I want this book to be a companion, not a critic; like the best friend who cheers you through your break-up and marches you to the pub afterwards. It's a call to action, but it's also a celebration of personal style, and a lesson in loving the clothes we have a little better. The way we shop is changing, fast, and I'm so excited to be a part of the conversation.”
Steadman added: “I’ve been a fan of Lauren and her writing for a long time, and I’m thrilled to be working with her on this project. How to Break Up With Fast Fashion is a timely, non-judgemental and genuinely useful book that will change the way you shop and think about clothes forever.”
