Headline has scooped The Royal Wardrobe from fashion historian and TikTok star Rosie Harte.
Katie Packer, senior commissioning editor, acquired world rights from the author. It will be published on 8th June 2023.
Harte is a fashion historian, actor and TikTok creator. During lockdown she took to TikTok to create videos distilling her knowledge of art and fashion history. She has worked with brands and museums such as the Victoria and Albert and has now garnered 316,000 followers on the platform.
The Royal Wardrobe gives readers a glimpse into the lives of the royals, from the Tudors and the Victorians right through to the 21st-century family. “Their clothes tell stories and hide secrets, you just need to know how to read them,” the publisher wrote. “They reveal complex individuals with fears, preferences, demands and insecurities just like us, sometimes they are weird and wondering, sometimes they are stately and dramatic, but always these garments explode with the personalities of the people who wore them.”
Packer commented: “Full of the scandalous, the romantic and often gross realities of the royals, Rosie takes an exciting new approach to a much-loved history and offers a new lens through which to see these famous historical figures, humanising them and bringing them to life on the page. I can’t wait to publish The Royal Wardrobe at Headline.”
Harte added: “I’m so excited to be expanding on the topic that captures the attention of millions of viewers every month as they come across my content. Over the past 500 years the role of the monarchy has changed drastically, but our curiosity about their lives certainly has not! The clothes of royals both past and present continuously fascinate us, and this book is the perfect opportunity to introduce each of these incredible figures through the clothes they wore, and charting the changes in wider fashion history that they instigated.”
