Headline has scooped two adult novels from Maz Evans including That’ll Teach Her and a second as-yet untitled book.
Toby Jones, editorial director, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Veronique Baxter at David Higham. That’ll Teach Her will be published in February 2025 with the second following in 2026.
In That’ll Teach Her, a disliked primary school headteacher, Claudia Stitchwell, suddenly dies in the school hall but a group of sceptical parents suspect the official nut allergy explanation doesn’t add up.
The synopsis continues: "Piecing together evidence from the daily drama and drudgery of the Year 6 group chat, local newspaper stories, police reports, school newsletters, and good old-fashioned gossip, a band of determined detective parents will have to do their homework to crack the case."
Jones commented: "Following the adoration for her acclaimed adult debut, we are happy to be publishing two more novels from the ever-brilliant Maz Evans. With a painfully relatable hook, That’ll Teach Her combines a layered whodunnit with a hilariously creative structure – Maz somehow manages to cram every page with both heart and humour."
Evans added: ‘Working with Toby and his stellar team at Headline on [previous novel] Over My Dead Body has been an unmitigated joy and this new strand to my career couldn’t be in better hands."
