Headline has secured Oath and Honor: A Memoir and a Warning by former US Congresswoman Liz Cheney.
Non-fiction publisher Martin Redfern acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Little, Brown & Company. It will publish on 5th December 2023.
The synopsis says: “In the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump and many around him, including other Republican officials, intentionally breached their oath to uphold the US constitution. They ignored the rulings of dozens of courts, plotted to overturn a lawful election, and provoked a violent attack on the US Capitol. In her highly revealing memoir, Liz Cheney will tell the story of this perilous moment in American history and warn of the risks the country still faces.”
It continued: “Her gripping narrative takes readers inside the rooms where congressional leaders grappled with the threat posed by Trump’s efforts to overturn the election. Cheney explains why she decided to stand almost alone against her party; why she risked her career, her seat, and her position in leadership to do what she knew was right.”
Cheney said: “The last few years have shown us once again that our constitutional republic is not self-sustaining. It survives only because of the courage and honor of individual Americans. When history looks back on this time, each elected official will have to answer the questions: Did we do our duty? Were we faithful to our oath of office?”
Redfern added: “As a senior Republican leader, Liz Cheney showed immense courage in standing up to Donald Trump in the aftermath of the 2020 election. Her book serves as a powerful warning about what is at stake in next year’s presidential election, with ramifications for the whole world. It is a privilege for Headline to publish this urgent, much-needed account.”
