Headline has secured Walking Back Home, the first memoir by Ricky Ross from Scottish band Deacon Blue.
Richard Roper, senior commissioning editor, acquired world rights from Kevin Pocklington at The North Agency. Walking Back Home will be published in hardback, audio and e-book August 2022 alongside a new solo album and tour.
The memoir will revist Ross’ childhood growing up in Dundee, his first forays into music and the beginning, success, fall-out and rebirth of Deacon Blue.
The publisher wrote: "Ross writes movingly and with great wit about the people and places that have meant the most to him, as well as his relationship with faith, politics, and the ever-changing challenges of being a musician."
Roper commented: "Ricky is a tremendous writer with a wonderful eye for detail, and this feels like a very different kind of music memoir, one that is filled with wonderful stories that are both moving and full of humour. I can’t wait for people to get their hands on this very special book."
Ross added: "I’ve always been interested in telling stories. Most of the stories have become songs but some stories take a little longer. A couple of years ago I started to write down some longer memories which didn’t fit as snugly into verses or choruses. I hope people might enjoy the stories as much as I have enjoyed writing them down."
