Headline has snappd up The Harder I Fight The More I Love You by singer, songwriter and music producer Neko Case.
Former senior commissioning editor Richard Roper acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Joelle Dieu at Grand Central Publishing. Assistant editor Holly Purdham will publish the book on 28th January 2025, simultaneously with the US.
The Harder I Fight The More I Love You "charts Case’s fascinating journey in razor sharp prose" from a childhood in poor, rural Washington State to a career as an successful music artist. The memoir "reckons with universal questions on identity and purpose: what it means to become who we are and what we owe to ourselves, the world and each other".
Case is currently writing the music for a new Broadway production and authors the bi-weekly Substack newsletter "Entering the Lung". In addition to her solo album, Case is a founding member of The New Pornographers, a Canadian indie rock band.
Case commented: "I hope my story will cast a spell of love, invite everyone inside, and smash the illusion that we have no connection to each other."
Purdham added: "As with her music, I quickly found myself under Case’s spell in reading her memoir. It is perhaps no surprise that the writing is exquisite; her lyricism shines through in each and every sentence. Following Case into the woods she frequented as a child and onto the stages she now dominates, readers will relish witnessing the evolution of the woman we see performing today. Headline is delighted to have this stunning memoir on our list."
