Headline has acquired a biography of Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen by author and motorsport insider Mark Hughes.
Consultant sports publisher Jonathan Taylor acquired world rights from David Luxton at David Luxton Associates. Max Verstappen: Unstoppable – The Ultimate Biography of the F1 Sensation will be published by Headline on 7th September 2023.
Hughes is Grand Prix editor for Motor Sport magazine, an F1 correspondent for The Sunday Times and technical editor for the renowned motor racing annual Autocourse. He also provides analysis for TV coverage of F1, currently working in the role of technical analyst for Sky Sports.
Verstappen won the F1’s World Drivers’ Championship in both 2021 and 2022. Still aged only 25, he is competing in his tenth consecutive F1 season, has started 166 races and won 37 Grands Prix. His most recent victory was in Melbourne on 2nd April.
Taylor said: “Mark is perfectly placed to write the most authoritative narrative on Verstappen’s incredible rise through the ranks to F1 glory. His immaculate credentials and first-rate access enable him to generate fresh and fascinating insights, and to paint a fully rounded and richly textured portrait of one of the most exciting young sportsmen on the planet.”
Hughes, who co-wrote Crashed and Byrned: The Greatest Racing Driver You Never Saw (Icon) with Tommy Byrne, said: “It’s been a rewarding process to capture this force of nature in words, digging deep, talking with those who have been instrumental in his story to reveal the many facets which have made him, as the title says, unstoppable.”
