Hero will publish The Seaweed Revolution from seaweed expert Vincent Doumeizel, translated by Charlotte Coombe.
Christian Müller, senior commissioning editor, acquired world English rights from Sandrine Paccher from Éditions des Équateurs / Humensis. The book will be published on 25th April 2023 in the UK.
Originally published in French by Éditions des Équateurs, The Seaweed Revolution explores how seaweed can help the future of our planet. The publisher continued: “It [seaweed] could contribute to better feed human beings and animals, replace plastic and fertilisers, boost medical innovations, mitigate global warming, repair biodiversity and support economies in coastal communities where fishing resources are declining. The Seaweed Revolution is a new hope for tomorrow.”
Müller commented: “Reading this book was an inspiring and informative experience – at once a fascinating and accessible deep dive into a little understood species of plant life and an enthusiastic manifesto on how to harness its sustainable potential in a world of decreasing land resources. Vincent brilliantly explains how other cultures have used seaweed throughout history and shares the latest discoveries and innovations it has enabled.”
Doumeizel added: “We all descend from blue algae floating in this ocean where life started on our planet four billion years ago. This book demonstrates that we will have to explore our collective past experience with the ocean if we want to build a sustainable future on land. Seaweed is the greatest untapped resource we have on the planet. This is important as we keep feeding our next generations with fear and foreboding about the future, when we should be feeding them with solutions and optimism. Seaweed is an unlimited source of innovation and together we should harness every bit of it.”
