Hero Press has landed The Ocean: How It Has Formed Our World – and will shape our destiny by special advisor to the United Nations Sturla Henriksen.
Commissioning editor Christian Müller acquired world rights directly from the author for publication on 14th November 2024.
The Ocean is a "compelling" exploration of the ocean’s influence on human history and contemporary society and Henriksen offers a "comprehensive and authoritative analysis of the ocean’s impact on geopolitics, climate, biodiversity and the potential for a sustainable future", according to the publisher.
Henriksen chairs the UN’s ocean-related projects with global corporations, research institutions, international regulatory bodies and national governments. He is also co-chairing the G20 ocean track leading up to the G20 Summit in November 2024.
Henriksen commented: "The ocean has shaped our history and contemporary world. Now it is surging on the international agenda for the most pressing and important discussions of our time. Only by truly understanding the role and potential of the ocean, and cooperating across national, industrial and scientific boundaries, can we make this mighty force a generous friend."
Müller added: "Sturla’s book is more than an authoritative history of the ocean and its geopolitics: it is a personal plea for a more sustainable approach from someone who has a broad knowledge of the area derived not only from his professional career but also from his passion for diving. With its wealth of absorbing stories and fascinating facts, I hope this book will be a go-to primer for all readers curious about the ocean."
