Pullman's His Dark Materials series get new-look jackets
Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy is getting a new look from Scholastic UK this October to mark the publication of La Belle Sauvage: The Book of Dust Volume One (Penguin Random House/ David Fickling Books) in October.
The new editions of Northern Lights, The Subtle Knight and The Amber Spyglass will publish on 5th October reissued with fresh covers from British artist and illustrator Chris Wormell, who created the cover for La Belle Sauvage. He has reimagined His Dark Materials in his distinctive woodcut style featuring iconic objects of the series: the alethiometer, the knife and the amber spyglass.
Wormell, as well as illustrating many of his own books, also provided cover art for H is for Hawk (Jonathan Cape) and has created artwork for national institutions such as Victoria and Albert Museum, Natural History Museum and Royal Mail. Andrew Biscomb, Creative Director at Scholastic UK, made the artwork deal for world rights with Alex Gardner of The Artworks agency.
The new edition of The Amber Spyglass, the third in His Dark Materials trilogy, will also feature the first chapter of La Belle Sauvage: The Book of Dust Volume One.
His Dark Materials published with Scholastic UK between 1995 and 2000, going on to win awards for children's literature including the Costa Award, the Carnegie Medal and the Carnegie of Carnegies.
La Belle Sauvage: The Book of Dust Volume One is due to publish on on 19th October, with "Twilight" actor Michael Sheen announced as narrator of the UK and US edition audiobook.
Plot details for La Belle Sauvage revealed in May tell readers to expect a new hero, 11-year-old Malcolm Polstead, and his dæmon, Asta, who live across the river from Godstow Priory, where the nuns are sheltering a baby, Lyra Belacqua, the heroine of His Dark Materials.
