Hodder & Stoughton has signed The Boy Who Lived, a memoir from David Holmes who was Daniel Radcliffe’s stunt double.
Former director of non-fiction, Rowena Webb, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, including audiobook, e-book and serial, from Rory Scarfe at The Blair Partnership for publication on 14th November 2024. Susannah Otter, non-fiction publishing director, will publish The Boy Who Lived.
Written with Matt Allen and with a foreword from Radcliffe, The Boy Who Lived details Holmes’ experiences as Radcliffe’s stunt double and the accident on the set of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" that resulted in Holmes’ paralysis from the chest down.
The "powerful" memoir is "shot through with wry humour" and explores what happened behind the scenes, as well as Holmes’ life after the accident.
Holmes said: "This book will be full of triumph and tragedy, just like my life up until this point. Detailing many behind-the-scenes stories that have not been told from my time on the Potter films, as well as some of the lessons and hardships I’ve endured since breaking my neck, I’m very grateful to be alive and to be able to tell my story.”
Non-fiction publishing director, Susannah Otter, commented: “This is a one-of-a-kind book, like its author. Both moving and deeply funny, it is an honour to be publishing a book with such bravery, heart and humour."
