Hodder Children’s Books has secured a two-book deal with award-winning author Nikesh Shukla, after a “hotly contested” auction.
The first book, Run, will publish in summer 2018 and is Shukla’s first novel for YA readers.
The book, set on a council estate with events unfolding over the course of one day, follows two teenagers who find themselves hunted after filming the shooting of an unarmed black man by police.
Shukla is the editor of the critically-acclaimed The Good Immigrant, a collection of essays published by Unbound last year, and the author of novels Meat Space (The Friday Project) and Coconut Unlimited (Quartet), shortlisted for the Costa First Novel Award.
UK and Commonwealth rights were acquired by Emma Goldhawk, senior commissioning editor at Hodder Children’s Books, in a deal secured with Julia Kingsford at Kingsford Campbell.
