Hodder has acquired a practical guide to grief by life coach and TV personality Jeff Brazier.
The Grief Survival Guide: How to navigate loss and all that comes with it will publish in hardback on 29th June 2017. Publisher Briony Gowlett acquired world rights from Nick Canham at Vivienne Clore.
Brazier draws on personal experience of bereavement in the book as "someone who has been there" and who has also helped others through their grief. He helped his two boys through the death of their mother, Jade Goody, witnessed the anguish of his own mum when she lost both of her parents and hears the stories of his coaching clients who are coming to terms with loss.
In the book Brazier will combine "solid practical" advice with personal stories of loss, and provides support and guidance.
Intended to be "accessible and hands-on" The Grief Survival Guide will offer guidance on everything from preparing for the eventuality of death and managing grief, to how best to support family and friends, and moving forwards - all the while recognising there is no 'one size fits all' approach.
Brazier is a qualified life coach and ambassador for the children's bereavement charity Grief Encounter. He is also a popular TV presenter and a regular part of ITV’s This Morning team.
Briony Gowlett said: "It is said you can’t go around grief, you have to go through it – but rarely do we feel equipped to support ourselves, let alone others. In this book Jeff addresses the many different sides of loss and talks openly about the ways in which we can navigate them. The reaction to Jeff’s writing – which is full of wisdom and humanity – has been astonishing and it’s clear there’s a big demand for a book like his. I am enormously proud to be his publisher."
Brazier said: "Writing this book has brought me a privileged view not only of grief in its entirety but how we react as humans when processing loss. There’s the value of grief which differs from one person to the next, then vitally, there’s what we personally add to it or what the grief combines with, that ultimately decides which journey through grief we experience."
