Hodder & Stoughton has signed two books by YA author Elizabeth Lim.
Commissioning editor Molly Powell has acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Jocelyn Lange and Penguin Random House US.
The first title, Six Crimson Cranes, is billed as an "immersive young adult fantasy retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s 'The Wild Swans' fairy tale, set in an East Asian-inspired world". It will be published simultaneously by Hodder & Stoughton and Knopf in summer 2021, with the second book to follow in 2022.
Powell said: "I’m delighted to be publishing Six Crimson Cranes. Elizabeth is a true talent – with her deft, absorbing writing and complex, likeable characters, I know her new book will delight existing fans and new readers in equal measure."
Lim commented: "Six Crimson Cranes is a reimagining of Hans Christian Andersen’s 'The Wild Swans' blended with East Asian folktale and legend to create a tale of love, loss, transformation and redemption. I’m thrilled to be working with the team at Hodder. I cannot imagine Six Crimson Cranes in better hands."
Lim is the author of Spin the Dawn (Knopf, 2019), Unravel the Dusk (Knopf, 2020), So This is Love (Disney-Hyperion, 2020) and Reflection (Disney Press, 2019).
