Indie publisher Honford Star has secured two new books by author-translator duo Bora Chung and Anton Hur, whose previous collaboration Cursed Bunny (Honford Star) was shortlisted for the Booker International Prize and won a PEN/Heim award.
Originally published in Korean in 2021, To Meet Her is a collection of stories that translator Hur describes as being “about women and other non-men being fascinating, monstrous, hilarious and moving”. Taylor Bradley acquired UK and Commonwealth rights to Chung’s text from Toni Greenbook Literary Agency, with translation rights acquired directly from Hur.
To Meet Her, slated for a late 2023 release, is described by Chung as being “more science fiction with non-human and/or dehumanised protagonists” than Cursed Bunny. Hur warns:“To Meet Her is not for the cowardly or the cowering. Only the brave can face the horror of our present-day straitjacket of male/female to come out on the other side dreaming of a future more wondrous and astonishing than today.”
A second standalone novel, as yet untitled, will be published in 2024.
Honford Star co-founder Bradley said: “We’re ecstatic to be working with Bora and Anton again, but most of all it’s great news for the huge number of readers who loved Cursed Bunny.”
