HQ has bagged Nobody Asked for This, the collected works of poet Charly Cox.
Lisa Milton, executive publisher, acquired world all-language rights from Abigail Bergstrom at Bergstrom Studios. It will publish on 2nd February 2023.
The collection combines Cox’s She Must be Mad and Validate Me (both HQ) with more than 70 new poems and exclusive hand-annotations to explore Cox’s grapple with mental illness and the world at large.
Cox said: “It’s a rare treat to revisit old work and celebrate it again as something totally new. This is a complete works not only of my poetry, but of my life and survival. The perfect piece of punctuation on a feeling that I’d never live to be the age I am now. I am, and I’m publishing this beautiful book that I couldn’t be prouder of. [It’s] more honest and vulnerable than I knew I could be.”
Milton said: “Charly captured a place in my heart and my head from the moment I read her first poem. Watching Charly continue to develop and grow in life and in her art is a true privilege. Helping many women understand that they are not alone, and with incredible bravery and honestly, Charly’s brilliant poetry is life-changing. I hope these new poems will delight her existing fans while finding new ones.”
Bergstrom added: “Charly’s poetry scratches at the surface of those insecurities that are at once universal and yet have the capacity to make one feel very alone. She’s built a community through her words, which fearlessly expel and bring to light the harsh and contradictory realities of life for many women. She’s raised her game once again in this new collected works.”
