HQ snaps up 'modern-day Cinderella tale' from Sophia Money-Coutts

HarperCollins will publish two new titles by journalist and author Sophia Money-Coutts.

HQ senior commissioning editor Charlotte Mursell acquired world rights from Rebecca Ritchie at AM Heath. The first of her new titles will be released in hardback, e-book and audio in August 2020. HQ described it as “a modern-day Cinderella tale, that promises to be just as gloriously escapist, hilarious and full of brilliantly bad sex as her previous books”.

Money-Coutts' debut, The Plus One, has been translated into five languages. Her second book, What Happens Now, will be published on 9th August (both by HarperCollins).

She said: "I was so excited about signing a new deal with Charlotte Mursell and HQ that I didn't sleep for several days. Honestly, I was delirious. The energy and enthusiasm of the whole team is astounding and the chance to write another two books for them is a dream (or at least it would be, if I could sleep). I can't wait to get cracking with the next two books to make them, and my family, blush all over again."

Mursell, named a Bookseller Rising Star earlier this month, added: ‘I’m beyond delighted to be publishing two more books by the wonderful Sophia. We have huge plans and ambition for Sophia, her star is truly on a blazing ascent and I look forward to much more blushing and guffawing into my coffee over edits.’

Money-Coutts is a journalist who spent five years as features director at Tatler. Prior to that she worked as a writer and an editor for the Evening Standard and the Daily Mail. She writes a column for the Sunday Telegraph, 'Modern Manners'.
