HQ has snapped up Birthing, Davina McCall’s “roadmap to a positive conception, pregnancy, birth and post-partum life with your new baby”.
Publishing director Louise McKeever acquired world all-language rights from Amanda Harris, global managing director of YMU Literary. The book will be published in February 2025.
Birthing follows Menopausing (HQ) which won Book of the Year at the British Book Awards 2023. "Written alongside experts, contributors and filled with real-life stories and experiences, this book will impart knowledge, reduce fear and empower women during one of the most vulnerable and often stressful periods in their lives,” the publisher said.
McCall described the deal as “a dream come true”. She said: “This book is full of women’s birth stories, and amazing advice and support from a whole range of experts that I’ve been lucky enough to get to know. Full of up-to-date science, tips, stats and facts, this is a non-judgemental and supportive book that, at the heart of it, will empower women to get whichever birth they want.”
McKeever added: “It has been incredible to see what Davina can achieve through her passion, dedication and honesty. This is a book she has always wanted to publish, and HQ are delighted that we could help bring her idea to life. Once again, I know we are set to change many lives and we cannot wait to get this vital book into the hands of many.
The public will be invited to submit their own stories for inclusion in Birthing at a dedicated site until 15th April.
