HQ has scooped two books from historical fiction writer Lana Kortchik.
Belinda Toor, editorial director, acquired world English Language rights from Mark Gottlieb at Trident Media Group Literary Agency. The first book in the deal, Brothers of the Revolution, will publish in June 2022.
The book begins in Russia in 1917 when Tsar Nicholas II was forced to abdicate the throne. It follows Sophia Orlova, a young woman with ties on both sides of the political fence. Sophia’s husband is an aristocrat, and the revolution threatens everything they have built together, whilst his brother, Dimitry, has turned his back on the monarchy and is fighting for the Red Army.
Kortchik said: "I am absolutely thrilled to have my next two novels published by HQ. Brothers of the Revolution is a story close to my heart and I can't wait to share it with the world. I've been fascinated with the Russian Revolution since I was a child growing up in the Soviet Union. I am incredibly grateful to Mark Gottlieb, Belinda Toor and the fantastic teams at Trident Media and HQ for making my dreams come true.”
Toor said: "I am so excited to be publishing two more books from Lana. Lana has deftly balanced her diligent research with emotional heart, bringing her characters to life in a raw and relatable way. This next book has all the ingredients we have come to love Lana for – a ‘strong-willed’ heroine, heartbreak, and forbidden romance, all told under a fascinating political backdrop."
Mark Gottlieb added: "Trident Media Group and myself are greatly pleased to represent bestselling author Lana Kortchik in the publication of her latest historical fiction novel which follows a rich tradition of classic works of literature such as Boris Pasternak’s Doctor Zhivago."
