HQ has signed two books from debut crime author T Orr Munro, with the first due to be published in May 2022.
Cicely Aspinall, senior commissioning editor at HQ, acquired world English-language rights from Lucy Morris at Curtis Brown to Breakneck Point and one other novel.
Breakneck Point follows CSI Ally Dymond, who has been kicked off major crimes and dispatched to the shorelands of North Devon for exposing corruption in the ranks. Her caseload now comprises only the pettiest of crimes until the body of Janie Warren turns up in the seaside town of Bidecombe. The publisher said: "Ally spots a clue that contradicts the lead detective’s cosy theory, but no one wants to listen to the CSI who landed their colleagues in prison. Meanwhile, a killer is lurking in plain sight, about to fire a warning shot into the heart of Ally’s life, forcing her to question the true nature of justice like never before." A second book, also featuring Ally Dymond, will follow.
The author said: "I am thrilled that Breakneck Point has found a home with the fantastic HQ, which publishes so many of my favourite writers. I'm so excited to be working with the brilliant Cicely Aspinall and I can't wait to introduce Ally Dymond to the world. I hope readers will take her into their hearts as I've taken her into mine."
Aspinall added: "CSI Ally Dymond is a fantastic creation and a force to be reckoned with. Breakneck Point is a phenomenally paced and character-driven story with tons of heart. It also features one of the creepiest killers I’ve come across in fiction, and a heart-in-mouth ending that will have readers picking their jaws up off the floor. T Orr Munro is an incredibly exciting new voice in crime and a total pleasure to work with. I can’t wait for readers to discover this series and meet Ally, guaranteed to be their new favourite character."
