HQ is publishing the first book from comedian and “ex-diet junkie” Caroline Dooner: The F*ck It Diet.
Senior commissioning editor at HQ Kate Fox acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Kate McLennan at Abner Stein, on behalf of Susan Raihofer at the David Black Agency. The F*ck It Diet is the US writer's first book and will be published as a trade paperback and e-book by HQ on 21st March 2019. HarperWave will be publishing simultaneously in the US.
The HarperCollins imprint said the book from the “ex-diet junkie” reveals how to “stop dieting, reset your relationship with food and transform your self-image”.
In it, Dooner tackles the inherent flaws of dieting and diet culture, and offers readers a "counterintuitively simple" path to healing the physical, emotional, and mental relationship we have with food.
The synopsis reads: "An ex-yo-yo dieter herself, Dooner knows how terrifying it can be to break free of the vicious cycle, but with her signature sharp humour and compassion, she shows readers that a sustainable, easy relationship with food is possible ... Irreverent and empowering, The F*ck It Diet is call to arms for anyone who feels guilt or pain over food, weight, or their body – to give up the shame and start thriving,”
Dooner, also a storyteller, performer and yoga teacher, said: "I used to be a chronic yo-yo dieter. I thought my big problem was my food obsession and bingeing, but it turns out, my actual problem was dieting. Diets simply don't work long term, no matter what we do and no matter how hard we try. We are constantly setting ourselves up to fail.
“The book takes us through how we got into this mess in the first place and why diets don't work, why we are all so dysfunctional with food and our relationship to weight, and how to step out of the cycle once and for all.”
Fox said: “Caroline’s inspirational writing has already transformed the way I think about food. This is a bold, brilliant call for us all to rethink our relationship with eating and what it is we’re really searching for when we follow yet another diet plan. Caroline has already helped so many people through her F*ck It Diet website, and I’m thrilled to be bringing her advice to a whole new audience."
