HQ has snared two “gripping” books from debut author Phoenicia Rogerson.
Cat Camacho, commissioning editor, acquired world all-language rights to Herc and one other book from Meg Davis at the Ki Agency. Herc will publish on 17th August 2023.
Herc is described as a “queer, feminist retelling of the Hercules myth” which focuses on the forgotten women and male lovers of Greece’s greatest hero, whose voices have never before been heard.
Rogerson said: “I’ve always loved the messy, human side of mythology, and there’s no bigger mess than Hercules. His story is a patchwork of family drama and dubious decisions with just a splash of grand heroics. In Herc, his friends, his lovers, and his enemies share their own stories, ones where he isn’t always the hero. I’m absolutely delighted to bring this side of Herc to life and I couldn’t choose a better team than Meg, Cat, and everyone at HQ to do it with!”
Camacho added: “I’m beyond delighted to be working with Phoenicia and Meg on Herc! It’s incredible to see characters we’re all familiar with given the attention they deserve at last. Herc is gripping, witty and tender by turns, and I knew it was something special from the moment I first opened the file.”
