HQ has scooped two further crime novels in the DI Henley series by Nadine Matheson.
Manpreet Grewal, publishing director, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Oli Munson at A M Heath. The Jigsaw Man, the first DI Henley thriller, has so far sold more than 50,000 copies, according to HQ. The second, The Binding Room, will be published by HQ in July 2022.
The first book in the new contract, yet to be titled, is the third in the DI Henley series and will be published in July 2023. It follows Henley and the serial crimes unit as they re-investigate an old case of their previous boss, DCI Rhimes. In April 1996 DCI Rhimes arrested Andrew Kenan for the murder of four people and Judge Tillson promised that he would die in prison — 25 years later, Kenan is dead, new DNA evidence suggests that he was innocent, and the killings have started again.
Matheson said: "I am absolutely thrilled to continue working with Manpreet and team HQ who did such a fantastic job of introducing The Jigsaw Man to the world. I’ve been overwhelmed by the success and the response of readers to The Jigsaw Man and I’m looking forward to continuing the story of Detective Inspector Henley with the dedicated and passionate HQ team."
Grewal added: "I love working with Nadine and I’m thrilled at the response to her brilliant novels. She’s created something incredibly special in DI Anjelica Henley, and we have exciting plans for the series as it continues to attract readers. Nadine has expertly planted breadcrumbs in the first two books, hinting that there’s something more to learn about Rhimes’ back story, and now we get to find out what that is. I can’t wait to see readers’ reaction to it."
Munson also commented: "I’m so pleased that Detective Inspector Henley’s journey will be continuing with HQ. It’s been a great start and I’m excited to see where Nadine’s gripping writing, coupled with Manpreet’s enthusiastic publishing, will take readers next."
