Emma Curtis has moved to Corvus with her “breathtaking” psychological thriller The Babysitter in a two-book deal.
Publishing director Sarah Hodgson acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Rebecca Ritchie at A M Heath. The Babysitter will be published in October 2023.
Curtis has previously published four novels with Transworld including When I Find You, The Night You Left and Keep Quiet. “Meeting Sarah and the team in the Corvus offices, I immediately knew I’d found the right home,” said Curtis. “I am thrilled to be working with such an experienced editor in taking The Babysitter to a new level and can’t wait to see what the next year brings.”
The synopsis for The Babysitter reads: “Ten years ago Claudia had exactly the life she wanted – married to her first love, the man of her dreams, with an 8-month-old daughter, Tilly. But everything changed in an instant when Tilly was taken from her, and Claudia eventually found herself jailed for the murder of her own child.
“Now Claudia is out on probation having finally done what she’d vowed never to do – confess to manslaughter – in order to accomplish the only thing that matters to her: find her daughter, dead or alive, and punish the person who took her. More than one person has something to lose by Claudia’s release – but only one is frightened enough to kill.”
Hodgson said: “Emma Curtis is a hugely talented writer who delivers breathtakingly exciting and page-turning plots time after time. I’m honoured and delighted that she has chosen to join the Corvus list. I was blown away by The Babysitter from the very first page, with its gripping premise, precision-tuned plot and perfectly honed characters. I can’t wait to get to work with Emma and the Corvus team on bringing her work to readers far and wide.”
