Hutchinson has triumphed in a hotly-contested 11-way auction for a collection of essays by journalist and "The High Low" podcast host Pandora Sykes.
Jocasta Hamilton, publishing director of Hutchinson, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights for How Do We Know We're Doing It Right? & other essays on modern life from Nelle Andrew at PFD. Hutchinson will publish in hardback, e-book and audio on 9 July 2020, £12.99.
"Confronting the questions at the heart of our contemporary chaos, Sykes offers insight into the world we live in, with its plethora of choice and the myriad modern anxieties", said the PRH imprint.
Sykes, a contributing editor and columnist for ELLE magazine, hosts "The High Low" podcast, which has 250,000 weekly listeners and has featured authors including Leila Slimani, Reni Eddo-Lodge and Tina Brown.
Hamilton said: "It will be everything I, and her enormous audience, could have hoped for. Stimulating and fortifying, the book is imbued with the results of her wide reading and deep curiosity."
Sykes added: "I'd been juggling ideas for a book of essays about modern life, for what felt like a lifetime. It was such a relief to not only put them to paper, but find such a receptive home at Hutchinson. I am so thrilled to be a part of the Hutchinson and Penguin Random House family and it is an honour to sit alongside its carefully curated alumni."
